A man in Pennsylvania is accused of strangling his 71-year-old mother and threatening a neighbor before responding police shot him after the mom escaped.
Sean Deibert, 49, stands charged with strangulation, simple assault, and terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime. He does not appear to have made his first appearance in court.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, on Wednesday at about 3:50 p.m., officers with the Lehigh Township Police Department were called to a home on the 4100 block of Heritage Lane in Lehigh Township, Pennsylvania. The area is about 70 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
Officers were told that they were responding because of a "domestic incident" between a man and an older woman, Deibert's mother. She apparently told authorities that her son choked her, threw her on the ground, and got on top of her.
The defendant then allegedly went outside the home yelling and cursing and threatened a neighbor, regional independent news station WFMZ reported. During this commotion, the mother managed to escape, running to a neighbor's home to call 911.
Police got to the home and entered, where "a confrontation occurred" between the 49-year-old male and officers from the Lehigh Township Police Department, according to a press release issued by the Pennsylvania State Police.
An officer used a Taser and also shot the suspect, authorities said.
The woman was cared for, and she told the local outlet that she felt "like I got run over by a bus."
Deibert was brought to a local hospital. Authorities did not give an update on his or his mother's conditions. The investigation is ongoing.
