A man in Tennessee is accused of beating his mother with a baseball bat in her bedroom following an argument about her not making him a meal.
Deangelo Billingsley, 27, has been charged with criminal attempted second-degree murder and domestic assault causing bodily harm, per Shelby County court records reviewed by Law&Crime. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $52,000.
On Saturday, Billingsley and his mother were at a home on Bonita Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. They were arguing, and the defendant apparently wanted some food.
The argument concerned "her not cooking him any food," and the woman said it "quickly escalated into Billingsley physically assaulting her," according to an affidavit of complaint filed in the case.
The man allegedly went into his mother's bedroom "and charged at her with a bat." They struggled briefly before Billingsley reportedly "overpowered her and struck her in her head with the bat."
She suffered a laceration to her forehead.
Officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to the home after the woman had reported that her son assaulted her. She was transported to a nearby hospital with "critical" injuries and identified her son as the attacker, police said.
Billingsley was arrested.
The defendant "admitted to grabbing an aluminum bat from his bedroom and charging at [his mother] with it," according to the court document. He also apparently conceded that they "fought over the bat" before he "regained full possession" of it and "struck" his mother in the head.
"Billingsley advised that the altercation started due to Banks not getting him any food," authorities added. The suspect was booked into jail.
He is scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing on Tuesday.
