A Texas woman allegedly ran over her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend after the women exchanged "derogatory remarks."
Dionisiah Edwards-Carpeal, 36, was charged with murder and aggravated assault after police say she drove her SUV into her former boyfriend and the man's new girlfriend, allegedly killing the girlfriend.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by local CBS affiliate KENS, police responded to a parking lot on Datapoint Dr. in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday after receiving reports about a fight. When officers arrived, they found the female victim, who was not immediately publicly identified, with life-threatening injuries. She died at the hospital.
Witnesses told police that they saw the victim being run over by a silver SUV.
According to the affidavit, blood evidence at the scene was "consistent with a person having been dragged across the pavement."
Police interviewed three witnesses, including Edwards-Carpeal's ex-boyfriend, who was also allegedly hit by Edwards-Carpeal's SUV but rolled off the hood and was not seriously injured. He told police that he and Edwards-Carpeal had dated for six years before they ended their relationship. After that, they continued to communicate, but when he began a new relationship with the victim, he stopped responding to Edwards-Carpeal.
On Monday, the ex-boyfriend and the victim encountered Edwards-Carpeal while they were walking back home after stopping at a Wendy's restaurant. Police said Edwards-Carpeal started following the couple, trying to talk to the ex-boyfriend. A security guard approached the SUV, and the ex-boyfriend said Edwards-Carpeal was "following and harassing them."
According to the affidavit, Edwards-Carpeal and the victim exchanged "derogatory remarks" before the victim and the ex-boyfriend began walking away. When the couple walked in front of the SUV, Edwards-Carpeal allegedly hit the gas, hitting both her ex-boyfriend and the victim. Police said the victim was briefly dragged underneath the SUV before she was allegedly run over.
Witnesses told police that Edwards-Carpeal stopped to look at the victim before she drove away.
The security guard snapped a photo of Edwards-Carpeal's SUV, which was used to identify her as the suspect.
Edwards-Carpeal was booked into jail and posted $400,000 bond on Tuesday. She was ordered to remain under house arrest and wear a GPS monitor. Her next court date is scheduled for Feb. 11, 2027.
