A Missouri man is behind bars after shooting and killing another man on his own front porch, police in the Show-Me State say.

Walter Fowler, 29, stands accused of one count each of murder in the first degree and armed criminal action over the death of Dwayne Henderson-Murphy, 34, on Aug. 4, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

The underlying incident occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at a residence on Hiller Place in the Walnut Park West neighborhood of St. Louis.

Police were called to the victim's home around 11:40 p.m. that night in response to a shooting, according to court documents obtained by St. Louis-based CBS and MyNetworkTV affiliate KMOV and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

At the house, responding officers found Henderson-Murphy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the porch. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Cellphone records placed the defendant at the victim's residence several times on the day in question — including when the shooting occurred, according to a probable cause statement.

Fowler is also "clearly visible" on Henderson-Murphy's backdoor Ring doorbell security camera earlier in the day, police said.

The defendant then allegedly appeared on surveillance footage from a nearby gas station wearing the same clothes as the man in the other video, according to the charging document.

In the second piece of footage, Fowler exits a car and walks toward Henderson-Murphy's home "while tucking a firearm under his arm," and then runs back to the same car parked at the gas station after shots ring out, police said.

Law enforcement did not provide a motive for the killing.

At the scene of the crime, police noted that a second man was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street as the bullets flew, according to the probable cause statement. Investigators did not say whether the driver of that vehicle had a direct relationship to the shooting.

Fowler was arrested the next day.

This week, he was formally charged by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

The defendant is being detained in the St. Louis City Justice Center without bond, jail records show.

In a separate case, Fowler is facing charges of assault, drug trafficking, and possession of a controlled substance.
