Law&Crime is searching for a dynamic scriptwriter and producer to join our growing YouTube channels. Our ideal candidate is a creative writer with experience scripting video content for true crime, breaking, and trending news topics. A candidate who is used to meeting strict deadlines and can work on fast turnaround times. We prefer a candidate with strategic knowledge of best scriptwriting practices for digital platforms, particularly YouTube, that can bring an entertaining experience that gets viewers hooked on watching. The Scriptwriter will work closely with the Head of Social Media and YouTube operations, along with channel hosts and editors. This role will be instrumental in developing unique and compelling video experiences that feel comprehensive and enjoyable to audiences on YouTube. Law&Crime is a competitive and fast-paced network in the ever-evolving media landscape. To be considered, please submit: An existing writing sample of work you’ve done in the past, whether YouTube-related, essays, or articles; and any YouTube videos or news segments that you wrote scripts for or produced.

Who we're looking for

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Fast scriptwriting turnaround time; Strict adherence to tight deadlines
  • Experience producing scripted video content; true-crime and breaking news experience is a must.
  • Strong creative writing and independence.
  • Ability to log hours of footage into a short-form story.
  • 2 years of professional work experience in related-fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Preferred area of study Communication, Film, Journalism, Production, or related field.
  • Experience and an ability to communicate and work collaboratively with internal and external teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and act independently and proactively.

Your responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Tracking, researching, and producing trending true crime topics for hosted episodes.
  • Obtaining court documents and police records to turn accurate, factual news stories for hosts to front.
  • Gathering compelling assets from law enforcement, social media, bodycam, interrogations, and other reputable sources to help visually tell a story in a compelling way.
  • Supporting channel hosts to confirm facts, assist with booking guests, collect official documents, and secure visual assets to tell trending, true crime stories.
  • Identifying highly entertaining videos from our vast library of police videos to utilize for scripted storytelling videos.
  • Logging raw police footage or interrogations to identify key moments that tell the story from start-to-finish.
  • Writing enticing scripts using a combination of raw clips and scripted storytelling.
  • Enforcing Law&Crime’s editorial guidelines in your scripts.
