A local media report about the shooting over the video game console in Milwaukee, Wisc. (WISN).
A Wisconsin man is wanted after shooting another man over a PlayStation, according to law enforcement in the Badger State.
Darrius S. Shelton, 21, stands accused of reckless homicide over the shooting that took the life of 37-year-old Marris Virgil.
The underlying incident occurred on Sept. 4 at a residence on West Keefe Avenue in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Police Department says.
That day, an officer responded to reports of a shooting and found "two young boys and a teenage girl screaming on the front porch," according to a probable cause statement obtained by Law&Crime.
The officer entered the residence and found the victim on the ground in a second-floor bedroom, "suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and face," the charging document reads.
Paramedics arrived and performed lifesaving measures but to no avail. Virgil died on the scene, police said.
The medical examiner determined the victim had been shot four times — once in his left arm, once in his chest, and twice in the back.
Detectives soon arrived and found several spent 9 mm casings strewn about the residence, including two near Virgil's body, police said.
One witness, who described herself as the victim's "long-term romantic partner" told detectives they arrived just before the shooting. When they got to the residence, they found that "their 10 and 11 year old sons were playing Playstation video games with their cousin," the defendant, according to the probable cause statement.
"[The woman] stated that there was a dispute over who owned the Playstation: Mr. Virgil or the defendant," the charging document reads. "[The woman] stated that in the lead up to the shooting, Mr. Virgil and the defendant began to argue about the Playstation and who was entitled to it."
As the argument escalated, the violence ensued after the two men went "chest to chest, in an aggressive posture," the woman told police.
"[The woman] stated that she momentarily turned away from argument between the defendant and Mr. Virgil, but she heard multiple gunshots come from that direction," the probable cause statement continues. "[The woman] stated that right after she heard the gunshots, she turned to see the defendant holding a firearm. [The woman] stated that the defendant then pointed the firearm at her and threatened to shoot."
After that, Shelton fled the scene, the witness said.
Another witness later told detectives the PlayStation was purchased by Virgil but at one point had "stopped functioning properly" and that the defendant "paid to get it fixed," leading to the ownership dispute. The victim's partner told police she offered to give Shelton $260 to settle the dispute but he declined.
The defendant is not in custody and a warrant is out for his arrest, according to law enforcement, local CBS affiliate WDJT reports.
