'They ran over me twice': Woman had just finished McDonald's breakfast and was walking to work when she was mowed down by random car, she says

An Oregon woman who had just eaten breakfast at McDonald's was seriously injured after an SUV driver allegedly ran her over twice before fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. on July 13 off Town Center Drive in Hillsboro, which is just outside Portland. The victim, 22-year-old Estefania Lopez, shared her story with local CBS affiliate KOIN and in a GoFundMe post.

Lopez told the TV station that after she ate breakfast, she left McDonald's and began walking to her job nearby at Ulta Beauty. She said she saw the SUV stopped, made eye contact with the driver and began crossing the street.

"I remember being almost to the other side of the pavement and I just hear a car screech and accelerating," she said. "Next thing I know, I'm being hit. It was just, like, heartbreaking knowing that no one was helping me."

The victim said in the GoFundMe description that she believed the driver intentionally hit her.

"They ran me over twice and fled the scene," Lopez wrote.

She suffered a fractured pelvis and broke a bone in her lower back. She spent four days in the hospital.

"Thankfully, no surgery was necessary, but it will take three months for a full recovery," Lopez wrote. "Right now, I am in a walker and wheelchair."

Lopez ended up with a bill of nearly $20,000 because her insurance was not accepted at the hospital.

"I am overwhelmed and unsure what to do," she said. "I feel very helpless knowing that I don't have much and that the person might've gotten away."

Police say the make and model of the SUV is unknown and they continue to search for surveillance video from nearby businesses that may have captured the crash or the driver fleeing the scene.
